Hurricane Mk.II D 1/72 Arma Hobby 1:72 - Model review

It seems that the idea of adding a 3D printed conversion to the set appealed to modellers because after Sea Hurricane Arma Hobby released another model in the same convention. This time it's Hurricane Mk.II D, a tin opener.

70062 Hurricane Mk. II D

The manufacturer announces on the box that the set includes 3D printed parts. As I mentioned earlier, they are necessary, because in the box there are well-known frames from which you can build a Hurricane with a C wing. It is this small addition in the form of "3D printed parts" that does the job and makes it possible to fulfill the dream of many modellers - the possibility of having a miniature of a small anti-tank hurricane in your aviation collection.

Since there is wing C in the box, you need to modify it to D, as the instructions remind you. Nothing too difficult, sanding here, filling there, drilling a hole, and finally carving out a new panel. Anyway, the manufacturer was so kind that a whole article describing these adaptations appeared on the Arma Hobby blog.

So what do we get in this box?

According to the manufacturer:

- plastic model of the plane
- decals for 5 painting schemes
- 3D printed accessories
- masks

Plastic parts first. A quick look at biggest parts shows that everything is good.

Close look, with the right lighting, allows you to see all the nuances of the surface:

Just like the control surfaces on the wings, the stabilizers also have a slight deflection of fabric.

The interior of the cockpit looks equally good:

Some of the photos reveal traces of mold milling. However, they are subtle enough that they should disappear after primer.

Main landing gear bay and parts related with it:

Radiators have a nicely marked texture:

The propeller has a bit of a flash which is probably the most serious "problem" I've found.

The only plastic element that does not harmonize qualitatively with the rest of the details are the exhaust pipes. The biggest fault here is the limitations resulting from the use of injection technology.

Fortunately, this is where 3D printing comes in!

Since the above photos do not show much, below is a photo of the part after removing the supports:

And one of the cannons dry fitted:

It must be said here that the print quality is top notch.

The printed elements include cannon containers with barrels, a mirror and exhaust pipes. Here again I complain a bit and repeat what I said last time. I am surprised by the lack of a pilot's seat and seatbelts. In my opinion, the model loses a bit on this, the belts are available only in the form of decals, which is unacceptable in my opinion. This contrasts strongly with the very high detailing of the other elements of this kit. Especially that it is the most visible part of the cockpit and it is worth making it look as good as possible.

What I haven't discussed yet are clear parts. Flawless and perfectly clear.

Decals have appeared so it is worth writing more about them. All markings and stencils are printed on a small sheet. As usual, they are printed by Techmod at the highest level. More than once I have found out that these decals are superb.

Finally, the instructions in a well-known form:

The last pages present the available paint schemes.

It's diverse: we have three theaters to choose from, and thus three camouflage schemes, there are also my beloved white stripes.;) Moreover, I appreciate and support the principle that the AH team follows when choosing camouflage - only confirmed ones.

To sum up, I consider the Arma Hobby set to be very good. It is in vain to look for errors or traps lurking for an unconscious modeler, and the biggest challenge will be the proper preparation of parts for gluing and modifying C wing to D. I know what I am writing about, because I already have one Hurricane Mk.IIc in my collection, built of the same frame as that in this box. The addition of 3D parts will not change much in fitting, so I can write boldly - it is the best Hurricane II D in 1:72 scale.
