Very Long Range: Tales of Ivo Jima P-51D 1:48 Eduard - Model review

For me there is nothing more American than Mustang. Both Ford Mustang and P-51 Mustang. I was schocked to discover that without Royal Air Force this plane would probably never have been designed. Isn't it ironic that the USA owes its iconic plane to Great Britain?

As you can see on the box this is limited edition. So there are twelve marking options and other extra stuff that are described on the side of the box.

Firs extra is poster with artbox, it looks nice for me.

Next - plastic parts. Almost all of them are in one plastic bag so some elements fell of the sprue. Luckily, nothing happened to them.

In all there are seven sprues included one with clear parts.

As you can see there is much extra parts on sprues that we will not use this time. For egample there are three types of propeller, two diffrent propeller caps, two types of steering surfaces and a lot of various underwing armament. Just look at the inventory in instruction sheet.

First, clear parts. They are thin and perfectly transparent.

Main elements are nice and sharp. Thin panel lines and delicate riveting cause that fuselage looks really great. In some places where it is needed there are also positive rivets.

Details are well designed. Look at the exhaust pipes with pre-drilled holes.

The part of the wing with guns is cleverly designed.

Like I mentioned many parts is available in variants.

Armament looks good too. Unfortunatellty in proposed marking options it will be needed only rockets.

Becouse it is limited edition there are resin parts in the box. Wheels and rocket pylons.

Also photoedged parts and canopy masks.

There is also metal pin with emblem of the 78th Fighter Squadron.

On the first pages of instruction sheet there is a note about long range missions from Iwo Jima.

Building steps are rather clear, but due to different versions I recommend to read it carefully before build.

I mentioned about versions so let's look at painting shemes. For me they are quintessence of Americanness - silver and with big nose arts.

It will be hard to decide which scheme choos.

On apart scheme there are marked aeras painted with aluminium lacquer  and those with narutal metal finish. It will be useful!

And stenciling positions.

Due to number of markings decal sheet is enormous. Decals are printed in new Eduard's technology with thick film on it. But they are sharp well printed.

Only on big markings there are some issues with colour saturation. I hope it will disappear after gloss cote.
